2024 Suzuki Swift: Generation 7 is in the starting blocks

Suzuki is set to launch the seventh generation of the Swift in 2024, following its presentation in 2023. This highly anticipated small car, though heavily camouflaged, was recently captured by our Erlkönig hunter.

Current Version and Facelift

The Suzuki Swift has been available in its current version (RZ/AZ) since 2017, and in 2020, the Japanese automaker gave the model a facelift. However, starting in 2023, Swift’s seventh generation (internally known as YED) will make its debut, boasting a more mature design.

Exterior Design Updates

Despite the extensive camouflage, some design elements can already be observed. The front of the car appears more rounded, with a curved bonnet line and redesigned bonnet. The grille appears larger, drawing inspiration from the Vision Gran Turismo study. Suzuki has also made revisions to the headlight units and front apron, with significant changes to the air intakes. On the side view, flared wheel arches are noticeable, along with a prominent bead just below the window line. Additionally, the seventh-generation Swift features classic rear door handles, which are no longer concealed in the C-pillar.

Continued Design Features

While the roofline remains the same, Suzuki has made changes to the C-pillar, which now faces against the direction of travel. The strong rear shoulders and crisp tail that characterize the Swift are retained. Modifications to the license plate panel and apron have been made, and the rear lights now sport a new shape. The roof edge spoiler, equipped with smaller side fins, remains a distinguishing feature. The dark contrasting A and B pillars also contribute to the recognizable visor look of the windows in the new model.

Engine Upgrades and Hybrid Option

In terms of performance, Suzuki plans to enhance the 83 horsepower 1.2-liter mild hybrid petrol engine, making it more powerful while also reducing fuel consumption. The 129 horsepower 1.4-liter engine, currently used in the Swift Sport, will also receive upgrades. Additionally, a full hybrid version will be available as part of the collaboration with Toyota. This hybrid powertrain, already employed in the Grand Vitara, combines a 1.5-liter petrol engine with an electric motor, resulting in a system output of 115 horsepower.

Interior Redesign and Advanced Features

The interior of the new Swift has undergone a complete redesign. Notable changes include a new steering wheel design and dashboard layout. The standard configuration includes a 9-inch touchscreen, previously seen in the sports variant. A 7-inch cockpit display is also provided. The top version of the Swift is expected to feature a head-up display to provide important information to drivers. Additionally, several advanced assistance systems will be available, such as lane departure warnings and adaptive cruise control.

Anticipated Price Increase

Considering the current supply issues, it is expected that the price of the new Swift will increase. The starting price, currently at €16,600, is predicted to exceed the €17,000 mark.
