Most electric vehicles tend to quickly lose their range when hitting the open roads, but the iX held its own and exceeded expectations with a remarkable 290 miles of range during our test. In fact, even the 610-horsepower M60 that we drove for comparison couldn’t beat the iX’s range, also clocking in at 290 miles.

Fast charging is the norm for the iX, with a 200 kW outlet capable of juicing up the battery from 10 to 80 percent in just 35 minutes. BMW has also joined forces with EVgo to offer iX drivers access to a vast network of public charging stations. But don’t worry, if you’re not near one of these stations, you can still charge the iX at any other common network or even at home using a Level 2 charging station.

Fuel consumption and MPGe in practice

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reports that the BMW iX model with its sleek 20-inch wheels is a powerhouse of efficiency, boasting a city MPGe rating of 86 and an impressive 87 MPGe on the highway.
