SsangYong, the South Korean automobile manufacturer, has unveiled its first electric vehicle, the e-Motion, based on the popular Korando SUV. The new model is set to compete with other electric SUVs such as the MG ZS, Opel Moka-e, Peugeot e-2008, Hyundai Kona, and Kia e-Niro.
The e-Motion has several cosmetic differences from the combustion engine model, including a closed grill, an electric vehicle logo, and a front bumper with more curved and modern shapes with distinctive lights and 17-inch wheels. The vehicle also has blue details on several body panels.
The interior of the e-Motion features a nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a 12.3 digital instrument cluster. The central console also has a shift gear selector, an electric handbrake, and blue details that decorate the dashboard, steering wheel, and seat seams.
The e-Motion has several hidden features that set it apart from its combustion engine counterpart. These include an aluminum hood that saves weight and improves the center of gravity, closed grilles that improve efficiency, and other features aimed at improving aerodynamics and reducing air resistance.
The electric motor in the Korando e-Motion produces 190 hp and has a maximum torque of 360 Nm, which powers the front wheels. Despite not having a very high figure, SsangYong assures customers that this model has “the best acceleration in its class,” although its speed is limited to 163 km/h.
The vehicle’s energy is stored in a 61.5 kWh battery supplied by LG Chem, with a range of 340 kilometers based on the WLTP certification cycle. The battery can be restored by direct current with a power of up to 100 kW, allowing for a 20-80% capacity restoration in just 20 minutes.
The e-Motion is an exciting addition to SsangYong’s lineup, and the company hopes it will appeal to customers looking for an electric SUV. With the promise of improved efficiency and acceleration, as well as a competitive range, the e-Motion could be a compelling option for environmentally conscious drivers.

The latest addition to SsangYong’s line-up, the Korando e-Motion, offers drivers a range of driving modes and the ability to control energy regeneration, providing greater flexibility and control when driving.
The electric SUV, which debuted at the Geneva Motor Show, features a choice of four driving modes – Comfort, Sport, Eco, and Eco+ – all of which can be selected via paddles on the steering wheel. In addition, drivers can also adjust the level of energy regeneration to suit their driving style and needs.
In retention mode, the electric motor converts kinetic energy into electrical energy, which is then stored in the battery for later use. This feature is particularly useful for city driving, where frequent starts and stops are common.
The default settings for the Comfort and Sport modes stick to level 1 energy regeneration, while Eco and Eco+ modes increase it to level 2. However, drivers can adjust these settings to their liking.
The Korando e-Motion also offers a range of other features, including a touchscreen infotainment system, keyless entry, and a panoramic sunroof. It is powered by a 61.5 kWh battery, which provides a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge.
The Korando e-Motion is an exciting addition to the electric SUV market, offering drivers greater flexibility and control when driving. With its range of features and impressive battery range, it is sure to be a popular choice for those looking to make the switch to electric driving.
